It’s notoriously difficult to say anything about the future and not be 100% incorrect. Things change at such a pace that what may seem possible now is literally around the corner, or gets overtaken by a new technology, product or service and becomes redundant.
However, it’s always fun to have a go at predicting what could happen in 5-10 years’ time.
Which is why, when Rudy De Waele got in touch with me and asked me to contribute to his new book project, Shift 2020 – How Technology Will Impact Our Future, I decided to put down some thoughts that, I’m pleased to say, have been accepted.
Rudy has form with this kind of project. His Mobile Trends 2020 is a collaborative project he launched in early 2010 and one of the highest viewed decks on Slideshare (in the Top 50 of All Time in Technology / +320k views). This time, he’s taking the book down the self-publishing route and taking to Kickstarter to fund it.
It’s not just mobile trends that Rudy is documenting. The vision has expanded to incorporate all kinds of technology, including 3D printing, biotechnology, M2M, the Maker Movement, Media, P2P Money, Retail, Robotics, Sensors, Smart Cities, Social Media, Smart Cities, Surveillance, Transport, Wearables, etc.
As a person who dabbles in a lot of different areas, I had something to say about a few of these. I’m convinced that many of them will be reality sooner than 2020 – certainly mainstream by then. I look forward to the book being published, if only to see how wrong I am!
Rudy has got some great people onboard. Shift 2020 is designed by Louise Campbell, an award winning UX and design technology professional with years of experience working with luxury fashion E-commerce brands, designing first-class, multi-platform, digital shopping experiences. And the list of contributors reads like a who’s who of the technology world and beyond.
You can get your own copy of the book by backing the project on Kickstarter. It ends soon, so be quick.
